LOCAL COMMNITIES JOIN TOGETHER TO SAVE LIVES AT WALK LIKE MADD 2013 WAKEFIELD, MA- Local communities, schools, and business have teamed up with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to host their signature awareness event, Walk Like MADD. The event is scheduled for April 27th 2013 at Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield, MA. This year, we are pleased to introduce a 5k run to the event; MADD Dash. Runners will lead the event and kick off the athletic portion of the program. MADD encourages all those runners out there to participate on this beautiful, scenic, and flat running course. Runners will get the same benefits and amenities as walkers. The goal of Walk Like MADD is to raise awareness of the dangers and impacts of drunk driving, pay tribute to those who have lost their lives to drunk driving, and raise funds for our programs including education, public policy, and victimâ??s services. If MADD can create a culture of healthy living for children and an awareness of the dangers of alcohol abuse, than we have a fight that can be won. if you are going to run, Run Like MADD ! Last year Motherâ??s Against Drunk Driving here in Massachusetts had a walk to raise money and awareness about Drunk Driving. 200 people showed up and raised about ,000. This is the precursor to the disease of addiction whose price tag can be quantified and qualified every year. Education can and will prevent young vibrant children from becoming alcohol addicted repeat drunk driving offenders. Education and awareness coupled with an appreciation for fitness and healthy living can and will save lives. We need everyone to Walk Like MADD! In the U.S. alone 15,000,000 are currently affected by alcohol abuse or dependency (Alcoholism Statistics Infographic) The Walk Like MADD 5k walk will feature entertainment by Amp Radio 103.3, complimentary lunch, raffles, kidâ??s games and bouncy house, and giveaways. There will be a brief opening ceremony emphasizing the dangers of drinking and driving hosted by NECN Morning Showâ??s Steve Aveson, as well a tribute table to those who have lost their lives to drunk driving. To register to become a walker or runner, the fee is a discounted per person until February 1st, after that date, the fee becomes per person. The event is expected to be a positive day for the whole family. MADD encourages groups and high school students to get involved.
