Is Friday a Drug Movie?
Question by : Is Friday a drug movie?
It is known as a pot movie but I have always thought of it as a struggle between the working class men (Craig and his dad and their family) and their struggle with the instability of living pay check to pay check and the uncertainty of any kind of true job security, as well as having to live their lives surrounded by crime. I grew up in working class neighborhoods in the Midwest and the Boston area, certainly not as violent as the projects, but I have found that movie to be as close to my life as a late teens white male in Iowa than any other movie I have seen. I had neighbors that lived on welfare and had friends that did nothing but use drugs all day long every day because they were my next door neighbors. Some of my neighbors went to prison while others have prospered. That is the reality of the working class world.
