Join our internationally recognized authors and clinical experts Jack Kuo MD; Carolyn Coker Ross MD, MPH; Robert Weiss LCSW, CSAT-S for this dynamic one day event.

Robert Weiss will explore Sexual Addictions in the Digital Media Age, Dr. Ross will focus on Nurturing Eating Disordered Clients into Health, and Dr. Kuo will integrate these surprisingly related diagnoses through the lens of Brain Science and Neurobiology.

This essential training by three noted experts in the field of process addiction diagnosis and treatment is designed to combine practical insight with the useful therapeutic tools needed toward more effective behavioral disorder identification and treatment. After attending this Symposium, clinicians will be able better assess, recognize and apply concrete skills toward the treatment of sexually addicted and eating disordered clients. These presentations, focused toward improving clinical outcomes and optimal client care, are aimed to educate professionals working at a Masters through post-doctorate level.

PROGRAM LEARNING OBJECTIVES

1. Apply new clinical skills to address barriers to effective treatment caused by Process Addictions, Attachment disorders, and Neurobiological Process.

2. Identify evidence-based practices for treating "problem" sexual behaviors in the Digital Media Age and how to diagnose these when working with the chemically dependent client.

3. Discuss evidence based practices for nurturing Eating Disordered Clients back to Health by identifying behavioral patterns and providing coping mechanisms for treating this client.

4. Discuss advances in Brain Science and Neurobiology of Process Addictions.

5. List diagnostic criteria to identify and treat process addictions as well as reference resources and information including: self-help groups, review of 12-step programs, online resources and useful articles and books.

6. Discuss advances in the field of process addictions and how these advances might apply to individuals and families.

7. Compare the unique variations of process addictions within the chemical dependency treatment model and discuss how the needs inter-relate, and how treatment may vary.

Speakers:

Robert Weiss LCSW, CSAT-S, a sexual addiction expert is author of three books on the interface of sexual addiction and technology. He is Founding Director of The Sexual Recovery Institute in Los Angeles and Director of Intimacy and Sexual Disorders Services at both The Ranch in Nunnelly Tennessee and Promises Treatment Centers in California. Mr. Weiss is a clinical psychotherapist and treatment educator providing international training for multi-addiction treatment centers and the US military. A media expert for Time, Newsweek and the New York Times, Mr. Weiss has been featured on CNN, The Today Show, Oprah, and ESPN among many others.

Dr. Carolyn Coker Ross, MD, MPH is a physician, author, and nationally recognized speaker with more than 20 years experience specializing in women's health and holistic medicine. Dr. Ross's passion is to treat and promote self-healing and transformation on the deepest level through the use of proven and successful integrative therapies. She is the author of three books the most recent of which is The Binge Eating and Compulsive Overeating Workbook – a whole-person approach to treating binge eating disorder and obesity. Dr. Ross has also co-created an audio program, The Joy of Eating Well, with Dr. Andrew Weil. Dr. Ross completed a two-year fellowship at Dr. Andrew Weil's Program in Integrative Medicine. She is also board certified (by exam) in Addiction Medicine. Dr. Ross is the supervising physician for The Ranch's dual diagnosis eating disorder program.

Jack Kuo, MD is the staff psychiatrist for Promises and completed his addiction psychiatry training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. He has been a residential counselor for at-risk youth and the homeless mentally ill and has worked in community outreach for HIV prevention education and needle exchange programs. Dr. Kuo teaches "Biological Perspectives on Co-occurring Disorders" for the UCLA Extension Program and presents annually at the American Psychiatric Association conference on topics ranging from Ethnic Biodiversity in Substance Abuse and Mental Illness to an evidence-based review of Virtual Reality and other forms of Cybertherapy in Substance Abuse and Mental Illness. Dr. Kuo's work has been awarded numerous scholarships by respected national medical organizations he has a private practice in LA, CA.

Promises will provide MFT and LCSW CEC's: Board of Behavioral Sciences Examiners (Provider #PCE 2724). Registered Nurses: California Board of Registered Nursing (Provider #CEP 14368). Participants shall be provided certificates documenting participation in this program for a total of 5 continuing education credits. The participating licensee should retain this document. Please check with your respective State Boards to confirm acceptance of these credits.
