Perscription Drug Addiction?

Question by Mark O: Perscription Drug Addiction?
How do you tell if someone has a prescription drug addiction? Is it similar to an illegal drug addiction? I have a loved one who I am very concerned about. They take prescription drugs for medical purposes. But they affect them the same way that illegal drugs affect others. They take 35 every day. They are a nurse. They can give a medical justification for every one of them. But the way they react at different times makes me wonder. Their emotions go up and down. They have the same reactions as a drug addict. Can someone give some advice on helping my loved one.

My mom has 5 months clean from abusing prescription drugs and I would like to buy her a book for her birthday about recovery. She has been regularly attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings, and through that program she has read one book and started another. She is very involved and serious about staying clean. I want to buy her something inspirational, and keep her spirits up. If you have any ideas please let me know! Thanks so much!!!

In a 2003 and 2005 report, the national institutes of health showed some pretty bleak figures.

They estimated that in 2005 that 48 million Americans, 20% of population, had abused prescription drugs.

Based off the 2002 survey, just that year, 4.7 million people used prescription drugs “non-medically” for the first time. This means new abusers of prescription medications on top of exister abusers.

Data for *new abusers* of drugs that year broke down as following:
* 2.5 million used pain relievers
* 1.2 million used tranquilizers
* 761,000 used stimulants
* 225,000 used sedatives

Question by bassdoc: Prescription drugs are killing twice as many people via overdose as street drugs
This is true in Miami, a city well known for illicit drugs, and certainly sure for the entire country probably at a higher rate.
What can we do to educate people that you cant drug yourself into health or happiness.
Heath Ledger is dead, and now they are question Mary Kate about where he got the drugs from. Should she be in prison.

Why My Nurse Practitioner Recommends I Continue Stopping All 4 Medications Cold Turkey?

Question by : Why my Nurse practitioner recommends I continue stopping all 4 medications cold turkey?
I was prescribed against my will 4 medications abilify ativan lamictal and welbutrin 7 years ago I was 16 and what I mean by that is it was court ordered because i dropped out of school. My parents gave consent to force me on the medication. I live in Boston Mass. and recently read on the web a law has been passed to stop this BS. This makes me very happy that this may be true that this corrupt pharmaceutical companies and especially the court cannot force such crazy meds at such a young age. But anyway I am 23 years of age now and the first thing I did was cut the 30 mg abilify suddenly my sex drive is back and I have aggression which yea at first it may have been directed at the wrong people. But when I tell her 2 weeks later I did this and I had insomnia she prescribes in her words a “sleeping medication” called saphris,well at this point I trust nobody so I looked up curiously what is this medication another anti psychotic.Well do I have a right to be angry for this lack of information she describes. So I called earlier today and told her look I have some aggression but its going in the right direction it is motivation inside and I would like to stop these medications gradually, could you please help? although I was furious inside I handled the circumstances very well. I told her I have rights to not be on medication if you don’t want to help I will just stop taking them cold turkey. Yea do that oh yea and hang in there! This is a damn shame does it take a genius to figure out stopping such medications that I take can cause sever side effects? NO! so wtf? this shit is crazy and I am not focused on feeling depressed anymore but fully enraged for a “Nurse Practitioner ” would say this? that is basically saying go hang a rope and die but I have faith but currently am outraged at such lack of concern! I do not expect a reply for this because I answered my own question but I am sure somebody has had similar circumstances.
In the first year on these medications I went literally from 160 pounds to 215 and it just got worse from there. But guess what? I have the will and mind and god given right, to bounce back! I currently weigh 210 but I am 6’2 in height my most weight was 265! I am athletic build and attractive now but this confusion cost me 7 Years of life that will never come back.
